"A Calico Christmas" Dinner Show by Former Branson Comedian, Current Arkansas Resident Spreads the Gospel

"A Calico Christmas" Dinner Theatre is gearing up for a free to the public show this season.

Courtney Lantis and Oak Lane Free Will Baptist Church Pastor Mike Hutsell appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" on Monday to talk about the show. "A Calico Christmas" is set in Minnesota and follows a family who decides to vacation to a "remote cabin."

The point of the play: everything spotlights Jesus Christ and "the reason for the season." Lantis didn't provide many spoilers but said that "everything goes wrong" for the family.

The show will run on Dec. 15 and Dec. 16 at 6:30 p.m. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and no earlier. While the show is free, donations are accepted.

Lantis is the writer, director and an actor in the play. She has directed the church's Christmas programs for the past three years. She credited Hutsell with providing her with the opportunity and encouragement to carry that out. Hutsell spoke about the talent Lantis possess.

The pastor said that she's "very talented in theater itself," and added that she is an "excellent singer" who wields the ability to write such programs. The writer explained that her heart's desire is for ministry.

She has a background in entertainment which includes a degree in the performing arts, a comedy career in Branson and work experience in Sight & Sound Theatres in Pennsylvania. Her current writing opportunities have enabled her to enjoy such passions again without compromising her beliefs.

"There's a lot of stuff that I'm just not willing to be involved in. There's a lot of stuff I'm not willing to do. I have certain standards I won't bend," Lantis said.

Writing for productions such as this, she said, gives her time to write things that do not spark convictions within her. Lantis said it's also something that has purpose and questioned what the point would be of doing something void of purpose.

The purpose of this show is to share the Gospel, spread joy and provoke audiences to think.

Hutsell said that due to seating limits and the need to prepare food, people wanting to attend should call 870-416-9990 to reserve spots. Reservations can also be made by emailing oaklanefwbchurch@gmail.com with their name, date of attendance and tickets needed. Reservations should be made by Dec. 12.

The team will attempt to make space for walk-in attendees, but people who don't make reservations will not have a meal at the show since preparation is needed. More was discussed on the broadcast.

The full interview with Hutsell and Lantis is available on the "Around The Table" Facebook Page.
