Barry County Jail to Close Prior to Completion of a New Facility

An area county jail will close for several months while a new facility is getting completed.

According to an Ozarks First report, the Barry County Jail in Cassville is closing today and will reopen at its new location on October 1. Sheriff Danny Boyd tells Ozarks First that building has experienced plumbing issues lately and will cost over $90,000 to fix. With the facility set to close later this year, instead of incurring the costs, the jail will close and inmates will be taken to facilities in surrounding counties including Christian, Douglas, and Stone.

The aging building was set to be replaced after two incidents of jail escapes of inmates took place over the last two years.

More on the story can be found on the Ozarks First Website.
