A Freedom of Information Act Amendment seeks to regulate FOIA redactions, according to lawyer Joey McCutcheon.
McCutcheon appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" on Friday to talk about the need for signatures by July 5. The act itself is centered on government transparency. The amendment is for the state constitution and will enforce a right to transparency. In addition to the amendment, there's an act.
He said the amendment would require lawmakers to take possible changes to transparency laws to the people for a vote. The act seeks to define public government meetings. McCutcheon said it would also create a "peoples' commission" to hear and address grievances.
The current problem with FOIA, he said, is that it's toothless. More was discussed on the broadcast.
