There was standing room only at Galena’s city council meeting on Monday, June 24 as residents and business owners were in attendance as one business owner expressed concerns regarding parking changes in the historic downtown square.
According to a statement read to city council by Dynatek Labs President Elaine Strope, changes made to parking availability in Galena’s downtown square created a loss of spaces.
“Recent changes to the parking situation in Galena are unacceptable,” Strope said. “First, the change of the angle of parking from 60 degrees to 30 degrees cost a total of 9 spaces on Dynatek’s side of the square alone, and a total of 66 spaces were lost on the inner and outer slides of the square. The original 60-degree parking served quite well for a number of years…(and) this move made no sense.”
