Handel's "Messiah" Music in Harrison

The Harrison Community Choir is performing pieces from George Frideric Handel's "Messiah" soon, according to choir director Michael Crouch.

Crouch appeared with his wife Ruth, who is the pianist, on KHOZ's "Around The Table" on Tuesday to talk about it. The performance will occur on Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Harrison. Crouch encouraged people to include the performance in their Christmas plans.

Crouch expressed thanks to the church and its pastors for their help and generosity, and later, he talked about Handel. The director said Handel wrote "Messiah" in about 23 days. "He said God visited him," Crouch said.

Crouch volunteer-directed the choir for the first time last year. He got involved by singing in the choir the year prior to that. Crouch is retired from directing choir and teaching vocal music in the Harrison schools.

He did that for 32 years in the district and 19 years at the high school specifically. More was discussed on the broadcast.

The full interview with the Crouch couple is on the "Around The Table" Facebook Page.
