Piercing Guns May Be a Health Hazard!

Piercing guns are a popular tool for body piercing. They are used in malls, jewelry stores, and many other places that sell piercing accessories. However, there’s a growing concern about this body piercing technique. They’re simply not safe, nor are they painless!

According to Jason Holloway, Technicolor Tattoo, “Piercing guns can be a most unsanitary way to puncture the human body. Anything that punctures human skin must be sterilized properly. Piercing guns are made of plastic and therefore cannot be placed in an autoclave to be sterilized. Cross-contamination can occur from one customer to the next.”

Blood-borne pathogens can lead to infections and disease when a non-sterile instrument is used to pierce the skin. While steps are taken to clean the instrument, true sterilization does not take place, leaving behind potential disease-carrying blood from person to person. Simply wiping it down or cleaning it with alcohol does not properly sanitize these microscopic dangers.

Another deeply concerning aspect of using piercing guns for Holloway is that in a relaxed setting, such as in a mall, the person handling the gun may not protect their hands from germs and bacteria which can pass infectious to an unsuspecting customer. These guns can also pinch the tissue, causing further harm due to the blunted piercing jewelry used. Another issue with piercing guns is that the angle of the piercing is more difficult to get straight.

The Solution according to Holloway are Professional Body Piercers

Professional Body Piercers are thoroughly trained to protect their clients by studying the human body. Trained professionals know that needle piercing is a much safer, more accurate, and a truly sterilized option for body piercing. Needles are used one time and discarded, so there’s no chance of contamination from the previous client. It’s also less painful, faster, and can protect the surrounding tissue. While professional body piercers may cost a little more, you can rest easier knowing that your piercing has been done the right way by a trained professional using sterilized equipment with much less chance of healing complications.
