Branson Mayor Larry Milton and the aldermen honored singer Tony Orlando during Tuesday evening's Board of Aldermen meeting.
Milton issued a proclamation declaring Nov. 8 as "Tony Orlando Yellow Ribbon Day" in Branson. Milton said he met Orlando 25 to 28 years ago. He said the first couple of visits with Orlando made it clear that the singer was a "visionary" and "truly a good, good man." Milton shared something specific he learned about Orlando.
He said Orlando flies to the funerals the nation's Veterans to pay honor to the fallen Veterans. He said not many people know that Orlando does this with his own time and money; the mayor said Orlando does this "because he feels it from the heart." Orlando stood next to Milton as this story was told. then read the proclamation.
Following the proclamation, Orlando hugged Milton, and the two had their picture taken by several people in attendance. Milton described Orlando as a "Veteran-lover." "Tony Orlando has represented our community so well," the mayor said. He said Orlando's home is in Branson along with his heart.
He continued on by saying that it's time the Branson resident had "a key to his home in Branson, Missouri." Noticeably touched, Orlando embraced Milton. Many attendees took pictures of the singer as he stood with the aldermen. Later, Orlando gave a speech.
