The Kansas City Royals have a tabbed a person familiar with being a part of a successful small market team as their next manager.
The Associated Press reports that Tampa Bay Rays Bench Coach Matt Quatraro has been hired to manage the Royals in the 2023 season.
Quatraro has been a part of the Rays staff for the past five seasons, four of which ended in playoff appearances for the team. Quatraro had come up as a player in the 90's through the Rays organization though never made the Major Leagues. When he retired, he continued working as a coach for the Rays before spending seven years in Cleveland before returning to the Rays in 2017.
Quatraro replaces Mike Matheny as Royals Manager, who was fired at the end of this past season after three years on the job.
