Darlene Renee Shofner

Darlene Renee Shofner, age 86 of Hollister, Missouri,

Darlene Renee Shofner, of Hollister, Missouri, entered into rest on May 5, 2023, at her home, following complications with illnesses. She was 86 years old. She entered this life March 11, 1937, the daughter of Russell Smith and Geraldine (Webb) Clapper in Tacoma, Washington.

She is survived by her grandson and caretaker, Calvin Shofner Jr. of the home; son, Calvin Shofner Sr. (wife, Amber Shofner) of Mack’s Creek, Missouri; granddaughters: Tammy and Terra Shofner, of Hollister; grandsons: Jimmie Todd Jr. and Jason Shofner of Madisonville, Tennessee; sister, Geraldine Lapide of New Jersey; as well as many great and great-great grandchildren, friends, and neighbors.

She is preceded in death by her husband, CMA Award winning country music artist, Cal Smith (Grant Shofner); son, Jimmie Todd Sr.; mother, Geraldine Clapper; and her husband’s parents: Otto and Ethel (Quinn) Shofner.

Darlene adored her furry companions: Flower and Bumpkin. She also loved butterflies. Darlene once enjoyed crafting (she owned/operated a craft shop at Coffelt Country Crossroads in Branson, Missouri); cooking (she owned/operated Lil’ Country Bumpkin Cafe, in Hendersonville, Tennessee); bass fishing; playing bingo and the lottery; gardening in her yard; eating at her favorite Mexican restaurant; and visiting with friends at the local establishments. Darlene was once an avid bowler and was in a league. She enjoyed her grandchildren that lived close to her and spent lots of time with them as children. Their fond memories included: collecting baseball cards with Tammy, going to yard sales, braiding Terra’s hair, and taking nature walks through Wears Valley (Sevierville, Tennessee) picking fresh blackberries. Darlene will be missed for her no-nonsense approach to life, humor, and love for others.

A private service will be held for the family at a later time. The family would like to thank Haven Home Hospice Care for their dedication and compassion in assisting with her end-of-life care. Donations may be made in her memory, to the Dementia Society of America, www.dementiasociety.org. Cremation is under the direction of Cremation of the Ozarks, Hollister, Missouri.
