David A. Metcalf, age 93, of Forsyth, Missouri
David A. Metcalf, age 93, of Forsyth, Missouri, previously of Spirit Lake, Iowa, passed away on March 29, 2023, at Cox Medical Center in Branson, Missouri. David was born February 18, 1930, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Hazel and Glenn C. Metcalf.
David attended the Moville Community School, graduating from Moville High School in 1947. While growing up, he was active in Boy Scouting and became an Eagle Scout. David attended the University of Iowa, where he met his bride-to-be, Deloris Babcock.
He went on to attend the Vogue school of photography in Chicago, Illinois, graduating at the top of his class. David and Deloris were married on September 24, 1950, in Garner, Iowa. He spent the next two years serving in the United States Army and was a Korean War veteran.
In 1953, David and Deloris opened a photographic studio in Spirit Lake, Iowa, where they remained for twenty-five years, where they both won numerous awards at state and national exhibits. He also served a term as president of the Professional Photographers of Iowa. While in Spirit Lake, he also was a scout master and longtime member of the Kiwanis Club, Masonic Lodge, and Methodist Church.
His hobbies were flying (he held a pilot’s license), traveling, camping, and enjoying the Lakes. After retiring to Missouri, most of his time was spent caring for their acreage or traveling.
David was preceded in death by his wife, Deloris; son, Kenneth Metcalf; parents; brother, Glenn Metcalf; and sister, Caroline Linder.
He is survived by his two children: daughter Kristi and husband John Scott of Forsyth, Missouri, and son, David C. Metcalf of Austin, Texas; and four grandchildren: Bridget and husband Scott Epps of Forsyth, Missouri, Chris and wife Jill Scott of Ozark, Missouri, Crystal and husband Buck Nofsinger of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and Nathan Stroup of Jacksonville, Florida. David is also survived by his five great-grandchildren: Nicolas Epps, Ella and Jacob Scott, and Scout and Sage Nofsinger.
