George Gregory Carmody, age 79, of Reeds Spring, Missouri.
George Gregory Carmody, age 79, of Reeds Spring, Missouri, passed away July 3, 2024. He entered this life January 5, 1945, in Wilmington, Delaware, the son of Brendon and Betty Jean (Reynolds) Carmody. He was joined in marriage November 24, 1976, to Barbara Ann Unland.
With a kind and humble heart, George was a teacher of others by action and example. He was an elementary school teacher in St. Louis Public Schools, Garfield and Turner for many years. During summer breaks, he discovered his passion for teaching people about the beautiful area that they lived in; he was a tour guide for Gray Line Tours and Anheuser-Bush. George took an eighteen-year break from teaching and opened his own touring company, St. Louis Sightseers that he started with the blessing of his wife, Barbara. After he retired from his business, he returned to education as a substitute teacher for Branson and Reeds Springs School Districts. In George’s spare time, he would fix almost anything from cars to computers to iPhones.
Having the best smile, called a devilish grin by many, and a kind soul, George was the best husband, father, g-pa, friend, and teacher. He treasured his time being with his children: Matthew, Gregory, Meghan, and Ryan, and a father figure for his grandchildren: Zachary, Tyler, and Hayden. He was a talented artist. He enjoyed spending time with Barbara on Table Rock Lake going boating and water skiing with family and friends. The memories and moments created over George’s entire life will be cherished by all who knew him.
George is preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Michael; oldest brother, Brendon; grandparents, Victor and Marion Payton; and grandparents, Michael and Hannah Carmody.
George is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Barbara Carmody; four children: Matthew (Heidi), Gregory, Meghan (Brett), and Ryan (Renne); seven grandchildren: Zachary (Carsyn) , Chloe, Tyler (Katy), Nicolas, Jake, Hayden, and Gabe; two great-grandchildren: Archie and Ivy; three siblings: Mary Carol Mauer, Payton Carmody, and Susan Zerjav; extended family members; and one dog: Luna.
A Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday August 10, 2024, at Saints Joachim and Ann Catholic Church, 4112 McClay Road, St. Charles, Missouri 63304. A Celebration of George’s Life will follow at the Church’s Care Center for family and close friends.
