Hoyt Emery Holland

Hoyt Emery Holland, age of 72. Blue Eye, Missouri

Hoyt Emery Holland passed away unexpectedly from complications from pneumonia on August 6, 2023, at his home in Blue Eye, Missouri, at the age of 72.

He was born on November 9, 1950, in Fort Madison, Iowa, to Willis and Leota Holland. Hoyt graduated from Ft. Madison High School in 1969.

He married Patty Yaley Holland of Denmark, Iowa, on June 12, 1971.

In 1970, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, and upon completing his training was assigned to the Security Service at San Vito Air Station near Brindisi, Italy, where he was stationed for the term of his enlistment ending in 1974. Hoyt was joined by Patty on this tour of duty where they made life friends. Their love of travel took them to many places while being stationed in Italy, their favorite being the island of Corfu, Greece.

Upon his discharge from the Air Force, he returned to Fort Madison, where he attended SE Iowa Area Community College in Burlington, Iowa, and worked as a Veteran Advisor for the college.

In 1976, he entered the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, graduating in 1979. Hoyt began working for Osco Drug in Springfield, Illinois, where he and his family made their home in Riverton, Illinois, for twenty years. In 1999, Hoyt was promoted and transferred with Osco/CVS to the Kansas City Area. He eventually transferred to Branson, Missouri, where he retired from CVS in December 2020.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Patty; his three loving daughters: Heather Holland Moore (Dawn) of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Neely Holland and Kacie Holland of Kansas City, Missouri; and his beloved granddaughter, Logan Moore of North Carolina.

Hoyt enjoyed playing cards with his family and friends. He was a volleyball fan for life. He enjoyed Cubs Baseball, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Chiefs Football. Boating on Table Rock Lake was a great enjoyment with his family. He and Patty were able to travel to many places during their fifty-two years together traveling back to Corfu, Greece, many times. They were joined by their daughters and granddaughter on this beautiful island where they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2021.

He is also survived by his three wonderful sisters: Karen Brannon (Bob) of Denton, Texas, Pat Zemlicka (Jim) of Fort Madison, Iowa, and Cindy Gjerstad (Ron) of O’Fallon, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.

For those who met Hoyt over the years, he had many friends and never knew a stranger. He was quick with jokes; his positive attitude and words of wisdom were loved by all.

Following Hoyt’s wishes there will be a private ceremony with a Celebration of Life at a later date. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Cremations of the Ozarks. To leave an online condolence or share a memory, please visit www.cremationsoftheozarks.com.
