Lionel “Lio” Maynard Groves, age 89, of Forsyth, Missouri.
Lionel “Lio” Maynard Groves, age 89, of Forsyth, Missouri, passed away on April 21, 2024, with family by his side. He entered this life on October 22, 1934, the son of Maynard and Helen (Danielson) Groves in North Platte, Nebraska. Lio was joined in marriage on December 26, 1970, to the love of his life, Sheila Wuopio.
Lio proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Sergeant. After his service to this nation, Lio earned his A.A. degree in electronics. During his career, he held many titles including calibration tech in the aerospace industry. Lio enjoyed going to antique car shows, traveling, frequenting garage sales, and country western dancing with Sheila. He and Sheila were members of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church in Forsyth. Lio was a proud Marine, a member of the American Legion Honor Guard and a lifetime member of the Marine Corps League. Most of all, Lio loved his family. The memories he created with them will be remembered fondly and cherished for generations.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Geraldine Hanefold and Delores Berard; and brother, Ted Groves.
Lio is survived by his wife, Sheila Groves of Forsyth, Missouri; children: Michael Allen Groves and wife, Teri of Kirbyville, Missouri, and Diane Digman and husband, Mark of Kirbyville, Missouri, Ronald Groves of Forsyth, Missouri; Sheileen Wills and husband, Troy of Ten Sleep, Wyoming; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and fifteen nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of life held 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday April 28, 2024, at Del Showers Community Center, 4385 State Hwy 176, Merriam Woods, Missouri.
