Mary Alice Layton
Mary Alice Layton was born on February 22, 1925 in Swan, Missouri. She lived in the Swan area throughout her childhood and attended Forsyth schools. She married Dean Layton on November 4, 1942 in Branson, Missouri. She traveled the Western United States during WWII while Dean was in the military. After the war, they moved west of Springfield, MO and began operating a dairy farm. They later moved to Hollister and Mary spent her time taking care of her home and family and worked at the Branson Garment Factory for a time. Mary later took a job with Hollister Schools and was the Head Cook for many years. She finished her cooking career at Sadie’s Restaurant in Branson. Mary enjoyed her retirement living in Hollister, crocheting and piece quilting and being surrounded by her family.
She entered into rest on September 21, 2021 in Ozark, MO at the age of 96.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, William Paul Gibson and Maude Ethel (Warren) Gibson; her husband Dean Layton and siblings, Charles Gibson, Elva Hankins and her twin sister Meda Melton.
She is survived by her three sons, Gary & Evelyn Layton of Walnut Shade, Dennis & Marietha Layton of Kirbyville and Gail & Kathy Layton of Branson; eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Monday, Sept. 27 at 1:00 PM in Ozarks Memorial Park Cemetery, Branson. Pastor Eric Dereks will officiate. Services are under the direction of Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home and Crematory.
