Retta Darlene Evans, 64, Branson, Missouri
Retta Darlene Evans, 64, passed away peacefully embraced by her daughter Mandy on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, in Branson, MO. She took her well-earned spot in paradise after a nine-year battle with lung cancer.
Retta was born on February 4, 1959, to Thomas C. and Donna E. Carroll (Black), in Vandalia, IL. She graduated high school in Vandalia and later in her adult life, furthered her education at Rend Lake College, where she obtained her associate degree in business.
On November 16, 1984, Retta married Charles W. Evans in Mishawaka, IN. The two spent many years driving semi’s coast-to-coast as a team while starting a family. Retta was a hardworking woman who also held various jobs in hospitality and retail, demonstrating her versatility and adaptability to sustain her family.
In her spare time, Retta was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her babies. She enjoyed crafting, jewelry making, camping, boating, and she spent a lot of time through the last 20 years online gaming and chatting. Where she made many loving and lasting friendships, and in recent years was known as “Grandma Awesome” to her Tik Tok followers. She was full of love and had a passion for Christ!
She is survived by her mother, Donna Nelson of Vandalia, IL; daughters, Amanda “Mandy” Evans (Sarah) of Reeds Spring, MO, Michelle Donoho (Wes) of Salem, IL, and Sharleen Hendricks of Water Vliet, MI; brother, Charlie Carroll of Ramsey, IL; sister, Brenda Davis (Dean) of Illinois; 14 grandchildren – Vanessa Simpson, Kassandra Wojciechowski, Shantelle Rice, Brandon Evans, Erica Evans, Destiny Strand, Taylor Nance, Jordyn Forbes, Hailey Evans, Hudsen Evans, Shane Forbes, Hailynne Evans, Hesten Evans, and Marlee Donoho; 2 great-grandchildren – Adalyn and Eleanor Simpson; and countless friends who became family over the years.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Evans; paternal grandparents, Charles and Retta Carroll (Taylor); maternal grandparents, Earney and Grace Black (Cearlock); her father, Thomas Carroll; sons, Anthony Evans and Infant Evans; daughters, Bobbie Evans and Stephanie Evans; grandson, Infant Forbes; and many precious friends.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date, still to be determined.
