Richard Luke Auernheimer, age 89 of Cassville, Missouri
Richard Luke Auernheimer, age 89 of Cassville, Missouri passed away Monday, September 20, 2021 at his home.
He was born May 28, 1932 in Ruleton, Kansas the son of Edward Henry and Margaret Mae (Kaiser) Auernheimer. On August 20, 1955 in Chicago, Illinois he was united in marriage to Elsie “Marie” Kaegy, who preceded him in death on August 8, 2018. Also preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Edith and Aleda and three brothers, Robert, Lloyd and Russell.
Surviving are two sons, David Auernheimer of Eagle Rock, Missouri and Mark Auernheimer and his wife Alyse of Richmond, Virginia; one brother, Wilber Auernheimer of Pittsburg, Missouri; one sister, Alice Simon and her husband Elmer of Augusta, Kansas and three grandchildren, Andrew, Chelsea and Anthony.
At the age of five Richard’s family moved to Augusta, Kansas where he received his education and graduated from high school in 1950. For two years he worked at Boeing Aircraft and then joined the United States Air Force. His military career was short-lived as he was medically discharged due to blindness. The VA sent him to the Edward Hines, Jr. School for the Blind in Chicago for a year. In 1955 he moved to Pittsburg, Kansas where he attended Pittsburg State Technical School learning the machinist trade. Richard and Marie then moved to Udall, Kansas from where he served on the city council. He was employed in tool and die rooms at Cessna, Boeing, Learjet and Coleman from which he retired in 1977. After his retirement he moved to Cassville to make his home. Some of his favorite pastimes were woodworking, gardening and working on his machine lathe.
He was a member of Cassville United Methodist Church, Shell Knob Shrine Club, was past master of Pythagoras Masonic Lodge #383 and Masonic Lodge #173 in Bell Plaine, Kansas and Past Commander of American Legion Post #118. Also, while in Kansas he was a scout leader for Troop 76.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Cassville United Methodist Church under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Pastor Jeff Fugitt will conduct the services. Burial with military honors will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cassville.
Masonic services will be held at 5:30 P.M. Tuesday with visitation to follow until 7:00 P.M. at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.
