Verlin Denvil Dunn...
Verlin Denvil Dunn was born on September 4, 1935 in Black, Missouri. He was one of four children born to Ondo & Eual (Myers) Dunn. Verlin grew up in Black and began working at the sawmill there at a young age. When he was twenty-two years old he began what would be a thirty-year career with Arkansas Best Freight, a trucking business in St. Louis, working on the freight dock. During this time he met Eva (Elder) and the two were married November 7, 1958 in Black, MO. Verlin not only became a husband marrying Eva but also a father to Eva’s four children. They were also blessed to add two more sons to their family.
After retiring in St. Louis, Verlin and Eva moved from Arnold, MO to Kirbyville where they built their home. Verlin continued working, operating Dunn’s Lawn Service. He was meticulous about lawn care and yardwork and often complimented for the quality of service and care he gave to his clients. It wasn’t just a job for Verlin, he gave the same attention and detail to his own yard and enjoyed it. Verlin enjoyed other pastimes including hunting, fishing and riding four wheelers. He was also a life-long St. Louis Cardinals fan and never missed watching a game.
In 2011 and after Eva’s passing, Verlin was blessed with a second marriage to his loving wife Betty (Newton). They enjoyed traveling together and spending winters in Texas in their close-knit cottage community.
Most importantly, Verlin was a devout Christian man, loved God first and foremost, and was dedicated in service to his church, Riverview Bible Baptist Church. He had served over 40 years as a deacon during his Christian walk and could be found at church every time the doors were opened. He was faithful in giving his time and resources and especially supportive of the Riverview Bible Baptist Christian School.
Verlin entered into Glory on November 14, 2024 from Cox South Hospital in Springfield. He was 89.
Preceding Verlin in death are his parents, Ondo & Eual Dunn; wives, Eva Dunn and Betty Dunn; brothers, Gerald Dunn and Richard Dunn; son-in-law, Ron Mullen; granddaughter, Jennifer Hutchings and great-granddaughter, Christina White.
