Welding, where did it start?

Who came up with Welding Methods? Joshua Lowry, the owner of 4L Welding and Fabrication

Welding, where did it start?

The history of welding dates back to ancient times, with early examples found in the Bronze Age. Pressure welding lap joints were used to create small gold circular boxes during this period. However, welding as we know it today took shape much later.

In the Middle Ages, blacksmithing was prevalent, but welding was not yet fully developed. It wasn't until the 1920s that automatic welding emerged. This method utilized bare electrode wire and direct current, with arc voltage regulating the feed rate.

Further advancements in welding occurred in the 1960s. The use of inert gas with small amounts of oxygen became popular, leading to the spray-type arc transfer. This variation improved the welding process.

In recent years, new welding techniques have emerged. Friction welding, a relatively recent method, has gained attention. Laser welding, which uses lasers for cutting metals and nonmetals, has also become prominent. The automotive industry has found applications for laser welding in metalworking operations.

Today, welding has become an essential trade with various applications. Welders like Joshua Lowry, the owner of 4L Welding and Fabrication, provide full-service facilities that work with different metals and utilize multiple welding techniques to meet the needs of their clients.
